One man’s garbage……..

why, why…tell them that it’s human nature

Well, actually , I truly hope it wasn ’t. But here goes.

A bit back, early on a Saturday morning, I pulled one thing out of our garage and took it to the curb, then, another. Then, two more, three, yes, four! I was doing it! I was cleaning. What ’s that? People walking over to see what wonderful items I purvey!!???? You say you ’d like to purchase this? Why this old thing? I ’ll take $20. That, $5. Essentially it was more of a house cleaning binge that was accompanied with a sale hither and thither and I raked in a whopping $62.75, but my house? House is looking spiffier than ever and I cleared out so much space. So I was left with a couple of items that were too heavy to move back to my garage, but, never fear, i was approached nearly immediately by a nice couple who pledged undying love and affection for my has been items. A dresser and, 2 steel doors as well as a storm door lay by the curb, eagerly awaiting the moment they too could find a new home. The were particularly taken by my storm door and dresser. I kindly promised I would hold these items and not let anyone have them as they would be back in one hour when the gentleman borrowing his truck returned. I even secretly stocked the dressers after they left as the sweet lady with the gentleman revealed she was trying to start a business and would really love to have some of office items I was taking back in for my own use after realizing nobody wanted the crap, and, it was lots of things I could actually use in my own office. In an hour when they were headed out of the subdivision, the stopped by, assuring me he was only running late and the truck should be back any time. During the next bit, 3 or 4 even, folks came by, asking for these highly coveted items. I shook my head and sadly replied these one of kind vintage steel doors, storm door, dresser and what not had already found a home. They immediately noticed some office supplies i put into the dresser when they were pulling out and closing the drawers, much like you ’d kick the tires on a car you were looking to buy. No no I told them. Those were also for my friends who gave me their names and acted like they had won the lottery and would soon return to redeem their golden ticket.

Okay, here ’s the odd thing. Not only did I miss out on the 3 or 4 other folks that wanted the remaining items, taking them off of my lawn? The sorry suckers that even stopped Ginger at the curb outside to introduce themselves and let her know they were indeed coming back, but (say it with me) he was waiting for the truck to come back (by this time I was thinking dude, you might want to file a stolen vehicle report with the police.)

Long story short, or not really as I ’m at 547 words,

it will be two weeks this Saturday since my sudden burst of unparelleled energy brought half of my garage out to our curb and put $62 very appreciated dollars in my pocket. and still? the damn doors are still in my yard. I not sure the motivation or if it was out of selfishness as to why all of these folks literally began coming out of the wood work asking about the very things they specifically saw others picking and putting down but it was just something I ’d never experienced in the past. All the doors? Right where I left them. I guess I ’ll have to foster up the gumption and get them to the dump somehow or have someone pick them up for a fee.

The dresser, I brought back in the garage for a friend who is going to pick it up and Mod Podge it. She better not tell me she ’s waiting for her friend to bring the truck back.
